Both events were held at the prestigious Hilton Hotel in St. Julian’s Malta, on the 6th and 7th September 2024.
The Conference was organised by the Malta Dementia Society, with the participation of the Dementia Care Directorate at the Ministry of Health and the Departments of Gerontology and Dementia Studies, and Nursing at the University of Malta. It brought together local and foreign experts in policy, health, and social care sciences in our endeavour to continue transforming the dementia landscape in Malta and raising awareness.
The Gala Dinner closed off the conference in a most enjoyable way, and was a great opportunity for all the participants to meet in a social ambience. It was an occasion to come together and celebrate over some amazing food, and live music entertainment and dancing.
In the course of the evening, an auction with some fascinating artworks donated by renowned Maltese artists and many other pieces, was also held, with all the proceeds going towards the various activities organised by the Malta Dementia Society for individuals living with dementia in the community or in residential/nursing homes, and their families.

This conference was of particular interest to health and social care professionals working in the dementia field, policy makers and the general public, in particular, formal, and informal caregivers of individuals living with dementia. Individuals with dementia were also welcome to participate and share their views on how dementia is affecting their daily lives.
The conference blended the theoretical and practical aspects of dementia management and care by presenting the audience with a number of demonstrations focusing on dancing and physiotherapy activities and six workshops that demonstrate several activities focusing on people living with dementia in Malta, Denmark, Norway, and the UK.
We were delighted to have secured some amazing speakers to share their knowledge and experience at our conference and they included:

Anthony Scerri
